Marinetrans extends its partnership with the Air France KLM Martinair Cargo Corporate Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Programme

Marinetrans (MT) has extended the ongoing collaboration with Air France KLM Martinair Cargo (AFKLMP Cargo) Corporate Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Programme. This collaboration marks a significant step towards realizing our Going Green mission.

What is SAF?

Conventional airplanes typically rely on fossil fuels, specifically kerosene or jet fuel, for their propulsion. However, burning kerosene releases carbon dioxide (CO₂) into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming. A more sustainable alternative solution is Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), which:

  • Is a renewable feedstock obtained from waste oils like used cooking oils.
  • Emits at least 75% less CO₂ than conventional jet fuel throughout its life cycle.
  • Reduces emissions of other harmful substances, such as particulate matter and sulphur.

Our contribution

The SAF Programme has been a crucial element of our Going Green initiative since its onset three years ago. The programme enables us to offer our clients an opportunity to reduce the environmental impact of their shipments and reach carbon reduction targets. In the quarterly and annual Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reports, CO₂ emissions and SAF offerings will be included to show the impact of shipments on global warming. Additionally, contractual arrangements can be made with clients regarding the quantity of SAF added to each shipment. The agreement with AFKLMP Cargo includes 156,250 litres of SAF to offer to clients, actively contributing to the availability of sustainable solutions in the industry.

Carbon Insetting Programme

Marinetrans, as a 4PL provider, continuously strives to optimize global transport movements. With the introduction of our Carbon Insetting Programme, we aim to enhance the sustainability of our transport services. This initiative, developed in collaboration with our 3PL partner, Best Global Logistics, underlines our commitment to environmental stewardship. The programme sets an industry example and serves as a platform for current and future sustainability solutions in global logistics.

By employing the Carbon Insetting Programme, we aim to reduce CO₂ emissions within our operations and those of our participating clients in the coming years. Whether we are delivering ship spares from door to deck or managing complex supply chain logistics, we actively reduce emissions by implementing sustainable practices at every stage of the process.
